The Aneuretinae share the following characters with the Formicinae and Dolichoderinae (Bolton 2003):
* Dorsal cuticular flap of the metapleural gland anteriorly reduced and posteromedially extended * Petiole with complete tergosternal fusion * Postpygidial glands absent

* Petiole with a long anterior peduncle * Helcial attachment high on anterior face of abdominal segment III * Larvae with abundant spinules |
