Aneuretinae Emery,1912

The Aneuretinae share the following characters with the Formicinae and Dolichoderinae (Bolton 2003):

* Dorsal cuticular flap of the metapleural gland anteriorly reduced and posteromedially extended
* Petiole with complete tergosternal fusion
* Postpygidial glands absent

Synapomorphies of the Aneuretinae include the following (based primarily on the sole extant genus, Aneuretus; Bolton 2003):

* Petiole with a long anterior peduncle
* Helcial attachment high on anterior face of abdominal segment III
* Larvae with abundant spinules
